The UNIX Systems Administrator will be involved with administration of UNIX operating systems. Recommend systems and programming standards and procedures including writing shell scripts or programs to automate and/or simplify the UNIX administration procedures. Recommend and implement security policies and standards and ensures adherence to procedures. Keeps accurate records of changes. Provide user account setup and maintains existing accounts. Ensure performance monitoring and tuning of overall system. Perform tape storage management and administration using Tivoli Storage Manager. Conduct preliminary studies for new data processing projects related to machine utilization, capacity planning, and network topology. Establish and maintain contact with key vendors for maintenance and services. Develop, document and maintains IP addressing, Domain Name Serves (DNS) and NIS. Monitor system performance and develop recommendations for correction or improvement. Evaluate and recommend hardware and software products for purchase that are consistent with the organization''s objectives. Maintain a disaster recovery plan. Create backup capabilities adequate for the recovery of data.
